Rooted to Rise: Stewardship Over Control
What the Book of Job Teaches Us About Life and Business
There’s a quiet tension many of us carry - especially as women, mothers, and business owners.
The pressure to hold everything toether.
To plan better.
To do better.
To do more.
To control the outcome.
We’re taught that if we just work hard enough, stay organized enough, think ahead enough - we can manage it all.
But there’s a truth woven throughout Scripture - and through real life - that gently challenges that mindset.
The Role We Were Given
In the beginning, in Genesis, humanity is given a role:
To rule.
To steward.
To care for what’s been entrusted to us.
That calling matters.
It gives us purpose.
It gives structure to our work - whether that’s raising children, building a business, serving our community, or simply showing up well in our everyday lives.
We were created to lead.
To cultivate.
To take responsibility.
But somewhere along the way, it’s easy to blur the line between leading and controlling.
The Reminder We Often Forget
Then we read Job.
And everything shifts.
God doesn’t respond to Job’s questions with simple answers or a step-by-step plan.
Instead, he points to creation.
The wild animals.
The oceans.
The boundaries of the earth.
The systems that operate far beyond human understanding.
It’s a reminder that is both humbling and freeing:
We don’t control the wild.
We don’t control outcomes.
We don’t hold everything together.
And maybe… we were never meant to.
From Control to Stewardship
This matters more than we realize - especially in business.
Because control often disguises itself as responsibility.
We tell ourselves:
“If I just try harder…”
“If I just plan better…”
“If I just stay on top of everything…”
But control leads to pressure.
To burnout.
To carrying weight that was never ours in the first place.
Stewardship, on the other hand, looks different.
It says:
⭐ I will show up.
⭐ I will do my work well.
⭐ I will lead with care and intention.
⭐ And I will release what I cannot control.
It’s not passive.
It’s not careless.
It’s deeply intentional - without being consumed by outcomes.
What This Looks Like in Real Life
In motherhood, it might look like:
Doing your best to raise, guide, and love your children - while accepting you cannot control every choice they’ll make.
In business, it might look like:
Serving your customers well, creating with purpose, showing up consistently - without tying your worth to every result, sale, or season.
In life, it might look like:
Making thoughtful decisions… and trusting that not everything is yours to figure out.
The Peace in Letting Go
There is a quiet kind of peace that comes when we stop trying to carry everything.
Not because life gets easier.
But because we finally understand our role within it.
We are:
Stewards.
Caretakers.
Leaders with responsibility—but not ultimate authority.
And when we operate from that place, something shifts.
We lead better.
We rest deeper.
We create with more clarity.
Because we’re no longer driven by fear of losing control—
but grounded in trust.
A Reflection for Your Life & Business:
Take a moment to pause and reflect -What are you trying to control right now that might not be yours to carry?
In your business, are you operating from pressure to control - or from a place of stewardship and trust?
How would your decisions change if you let go of needing full control?
What would it look like to lead your life and business with care, not control?
Where can you focus on doing your part well… and release the outcome?
Rooted to Rise Reminder:
You don’t have to carry everything.
You don’t have to control everything.
You were never meant to.
Do your part.
Lead with intention.
Care deeply.
And trust that what’s beyond your control…
was never yours to hold in the first place.
