Worship Wednesday: If God is For Us

Reading: Romans 8:31-39 (NLT)

Romans 8 Closes with one of the most triumphant and comforting declarations in Scripture. After walking through suffering, weakness, purpose, and glory, Paul anchors us in something unshakable: God is for us.

This passage reminds us that our faith is not rooted in our performance, but in God’s character. It is not sustained by our perfection, but by His plan.

If God is For Us

Paul asks a powerful question:

“If God is for us, who can ever be against us?”

This is not denial of opposition. It is perspective We may face resistance, misunderstanding, judgement, or hardship - but none of it outweighs the reality that the Creator of heaven and earth stands for us.

God is not distant. He is not selective in His love. He is loving, just, and intentional. He calls all people to Himself. He reveals sin not to shame us, but to draw us closer. His invitation is open.

Made Right Through Jesus

This chapter echoes a foundational truth found throughout Romans: we are made right with God through Jesus - not through our own striving.

Faith fulfills what effort never could.

We do not earn belonging. We receive it.

It is through Christ’s sacrifice that we are justified. Through Him, we are declared righteous. God is fair and just - sin is addressed fully in Jesus. And because of that, mercy is extended fully to us.

We stand secure not because we have perfected ourselves, but because Christ has completed the work.

Called With Purpose

Earlier in Romans 8, we are reminded that those God calls, He also justifies and glorifies. His plan stretches beyond what we can see. It carries deeper meaning than we are meant to fully understand.

God’s purposes are not random. They are layered, intentional, and eternal.

Even when we cannot trace His hand, we can trust His heart.

Nothing Can Separate

Paul ends this chapter with a sweeping declaration:

Nothing - no hardship, no fear, no power, no failure - can separate us from the love of God revealed in Christ Jesus.

Not our past. Not our doubts Not the opinions of others.

The love of God is not fragile. It is fixed.

Belonging to Christ does not mean life without challenge. It means we are never abandoned in it. We are held in a love that is stronger than opposition and deeper than our own understanding.

Secure in Love

Romans 8:31-39 calls us to confidence - not in ourselves, but in God.

He is for us. He is just. He is loving. His plan is greater than ours.

And nothing can undo what He has done through Jesus.

As you move through this week, let this truth steady you: you are not striving for God’s approval. You are living from it.

Reflection Prompts for the Week:

Where have you been striving to earn what God has already freely given - and how might resting in His unshakable love change the way you move forward?
